Joe's Ancient Orange Mead
Based on Vikings Mash Brewing.com, but I added actual nutrients.
- Honey: 2.150kg Famille Michaud - Lune de Miel, €9.99/kg 1+1 gratis.
- Orange: 1 pc, 236g, Delhaize “eetappelsien”
- Yeast: US-05: 5g
- Yeast hulls: 3.3g
- Bentonite: 4.1g
- Cinnamon stick: 1, a biggie
- Cloves: 1
- Pinch of freshly ground nutmeg
- H2O: 3.5kg: added as much as to get to approx 5L
All of the above in primary.

I’m locked up with COVID at home. No better time to start a new mead.
Starting gravity approx 1.129, forgot to measure. Ferments until the yeast experiences Death By Alcohol.
April 27 2023
No activity after about 12 hours, I assume the rather old US-05 package died. Added the remaining 0.4g of the US-05 together with 2.9g of rehydrated Lalvin 71B to the must.

Tastes strongly of higher alcohols, this is going in the basement for a loooong time
